Latino Grooves Festival, Australia's Hottest Beach Party!!! (Formerly Tropicana Festival)
The Shores Complex in West Beach will explode on Saturday February 11th 2006 with the Latino Grooves Festival; a vibrant celebration of Latino and Afro-Caribbean Music, Dance and Culture.
Be a part of the hundreds of Latin music enthusiasts who will fill The Shores to experience the pulsating Latin Culture; listen and dance to their favourite bands and eat traditional food from across Latin America.
The Latino Grooves Festival will showcase the finest local, national and international Latino and Afro-Caribbean talent through 14 hours of non-stop entertainment from 12PM to 2AM.
The Latino Grooves Festival will tantalize your senses with World Music, Live Latin Bands, DJ’s, Dance Performances, Workshops, Live Percussion, Food and Market Stalls and much, much more! Formerly known as Tropicana Festival, the Latino Grooves Festival will provide many new exciting and exotic experiences for the people of Adelaide.

Mariachi Los Románticos - Mexican Mariachi
The only thing more Mexican than tequila is Mariachi Los Romanticos! Mariachi goes beyond music; it represents a cultural revolution expressed through a group of musicians dressed in charro suits which encompasses the essence of Mexico and its people. It is cultural, spiritual and traditional, unique to the Central American culture - an experience not to be missed! The Salvadorian members of Los Románticos left El Salvador 16 years ago searching for a better life. On arrival to our shores, brothers Willíam and Julio with their father José, began to recreate their musical identity and play the Mariachi music of their homeland. Their songs embody the essence of México, telling stories of yesterday, today and tomorrow.
Saraguey - New York Salsa
Born in Brooklyn, New York and raised by Puerto Rican parents, Luis Lugo discovered his passion and aptitude for music at a young age, inspired by Puerto Rican Salsa Greats; Tito Puente, Hector Lavoe, Willie Colon and Ray Barretto. Working in the industry for many years in New York before moving to Australia; he performed with many bands such as Fuego 77 as well as working for Mercado Records where he had the pleasure of meeting and working with his life-long mentors such as Ruben Blades. Since moving to Australia, Luis Lugo has worked with many local bands as well as forming his own, Saraguey. As Director of Saraguey, Luis Lugo has drawn from his experiences from his native New York making Saraguey a unique blend of Jazz and Caribbean rhythms that represents the streets of New York!
TNT LATINOz - Explosive Cocktail of Latin Rhythms
TNT is Australia's hottest and funkiest Latino music act, renown for whipping audiences into a frenzy with their amazing, energetic and 'High Voltage' shows. No one can sit still when they perform - even those people with two left feet! An exotic concoction of Latino & Afro Caribbean rhythms, their sound is vibrant and irresistible, hypnotizing you onto the dance floor. TNT LATINOz features the cream of Adelaide's Jazz and Latin musicians as well as the internationally acclaimed Afro-Caribbean Master Percussionist, Hugo 'El Papi' Salcedo. TNT's explosive repertoire of Colombian, Cuban and Caribbean rhythms fused with Funk and Jazz will keep you dancing all night long!!!
Kenny López & Havana Connection - Afro-Cuban Beats
A distinctive blend of traditional and contemporary Cuban music, Havana Connection will keep you dancing to the sultry rhythms of Cuban Salsa, Son and Cha Cha. Having recorded two albums, Kenny López is a widely recognized Singer, Composer and Master of the Tres Cubano as well as Director of Havana Connection. During his career, Kenny has collaborated with Sierra Maestra, Cuba's famous exponents of Son whose director Juan de Marcos formed the internationally renowned Buena Vista Social Club. Dedicated to the true representation of Cuban music, Havana Connection will truly connect you to Havana, Cuba!!!
Salva - Reggaeton and Latin Hip Hop
Reggaeton is a relatively new genre of dance music that has become popular around the world in the last decade. The name is derived from the reggae music of Jamaica which was developed in Panama, Puerto Rico and Colombia. Reggaeton was heavily influenced by the urban hip-hop music craze in the United States and has taken the world by storm!!! Salvador Abarsua is an extremely talented and promising Composer and Performer of this genre. Come and experience his extraordinary performance. It promises to be like nothing you have experienced before!
Sabor Latino - Tropical Latin Dance Band
SAMI Awards Winners in 2004 for Most Popular World Music Act, Sabor Latino have been entertaining huge crowds for over 16 years. Chilean guitarist and singer Eduardo Abarca is the musical heart and soul of the band. Sabor Latino play an irresistible blend of hot and spicy Latino grooves from Chile, Argentina, Colombia, Venezuela, Cuba, Dominican Republic and much more. Their amazing repertoire includes including Mambo, Cha Cha, Merengue and Cumbia.
Aimeé Colás - Cuban Diva
Born in Guantanamo de Cuba, Aimeé Colás was raised in Havana where she studied and mastered the Afro-Cuban dance styles of Salsa, Son, Cha Cha, Rumba and the traditional Afro-Cuban Orishas (Santeria). A multi-skilled entertainer, Aimeé is also a member of Havana Connection; where she is lead vocalist. Currently residing in Melbourne, Aimeé is Director of The Afro-Cuban School of Dance and Music. Renowned for her authentic style and spontaneity, Aimeé irrefutably represents the exotic Cuban groove!
Adrian Medina - Cuban Dancer/Instructor
Born and educated in Havana, Cuba, Adrian Medina is a professionally trained dancer and choreographer with diplomas in folkloric Afro-Cuban and Contemporary Dance. A seasoned performer; Adrian has travelled extensively with international Cuban stage shows Havana Nights and the Cuban Experience. Also an experienced model, Adrian was crowned Male Model of the Year in Shanghai, China in 2002 by Man Hunt International. Presently residing in Adelaide, Adrian is an integral component of Australia’s premier Latin dance band; TNT LATINOz and South Australia’s leading Latin Entertainment Company; Latino Grooves.
Julia Gonzalez - Salsa Dancer/Instructor
Born in Santiago, Chile, Julia is one of Australia's finest Latin dancers and instructors, having worked as principal performer, instructor and choreographer with Sydney's most prestigious dance schools; Club Salsa and Salsa Vibes. Demand for Julia's talent has seen her teach and perform across Australia at all major Salsa events; having most recently collaborated with Adelaide's leading Latin Dance Company; Latino Grooves. Dedicating herself to and specialising in Salsa, Julia is widely respected and sought after for her technical and precise instruction. Also renowned for her passionate, sensual and soulful style; let Julia share her passion for dance with you!
Tribe Vibe Belly Dance
Tribal Style Belly Dance is a contemporary fusion of traditional elements reflecting a journey along the Gypsy trail. The dance form is inspired and derived from The Middle East, Spain, North Africa and India. At the core of this dance form, Flamenco influence is evident through the strong posture and stage presence allowing for a dynamic presentation from each performer, while sharing in the spirit of tribal community dance. Tribal style Belly Dance is based on improvisation and each performance is a spontaneous conversation of dance! They will impress you with their passionate and fiery movements, stunning costumes and distinctive choreography!

The Latino Grooves Festival will take place just meters from the beach at the Shores Complex, West Beach. Situated right at the sand dunes between Glenelg and Henley Beach, The Shores is only minutes from the CBD. The Shores Complex boasts 2 huge stages, enormous dance floors, an impressive Beer Garden, plenty of parking and a fantastic beach atmosphere. "You will feel as if you were in the Caribbean!"
