HOME-GROWN MUSIC GETS A LIFT

Live contemporary music in SA will be boosted with the State Government providing even more
programs of support.

Minister Assisting in the Arts John Hill said extra initiatives would be introduced through Arts SA to boost home-grown talent, following a review of the Live Music Fund. "Arts SA will be introducing a range of additional support programs for South Australian artists," he said. "Live music is important to this state - we want to make sure that we continue to have a vibrant music scene and that we continue to nurture live music."

Initiatives include:

  • A Live Music Industry Advisory Committee will be formed to advise on the industry to Arts SA on matters such as touring, developing audiences and building partnerships to promote the music of South Australian artists.
  • Ausmusic will be given funds to provide skills development and business development opportunities. This will be linked to the MusicSA website and will be implemented from 2007
for a period of three years.
  • The Live Music Fund will continue and $37,000 from Arts SA's grant program will go towards recording assistance grants. These grant programs have played an important role in assisting local bands to develop their national profile with South Australia's 2006 ARIA award winners,
the Hilltop Hoods and the Audreys, having both been past recipients.

The Live Music Fund was set up in 2003 to implement a range of programs designed to invigorate the contemporary music scene in South Australia. Last year a comprehensive review of the fund was commissioned to examine the outcomes of these programs.
