Mr Wednesday re-Scores!

30/11/2006

The Media Resource Centre in conjunction with the Mercury Cinema is proud to present the inaugural SILENT ReMASTERS FESTIVAL. Running over four separate nights throughout December this Cinemathèque exclusive will feature four silent film masterpieces from four giants of filmaking re-scored by local composers, musicians and sound artists.

The Silent ReMasters Festival offers ambitious screen composers a chance to hone their skills under the guidance of some of Australia's best screen directors, composers and sound artists. Mentors involved in the project include AFTRS Head of Screen Composition Martin Armiger and pioneering electronic music composer Tristram Cary (The Ladykillers, Doctor Who). Acclaimed filmmaker Rolf de Heer will be presenting a seminar on directing the silent film, in the lead up to the premiere of his much-anticipated Dr Plonk.

Each composer is also allocated a high profile mentor from the Australian music industry to offer professional and creative support through this process and those who pre-record their new score are given the opportunity mix their work in a professional surround sound cinema mixing studio.

Adelaide concept rock band Mr Wednesday will premier their full length re-score to Fritz Lang's 1928 film Spione (Spies) on Monday 11th December. Mr Wednesday's Duncan Campbell, with the assistance of other band members, has composed an amazing and elaborate world-class re-score to the 108 minute film in just over two months.

ABOUT MR WEDNESDAY
Mr Wednesday's concept driven sound is comprised of a rich tapestry of haunting guitars, junkyard percussion, corroded electronics, melodious strings, and ethereal vocals, creating the perfect cinematic landscape for the imagination. The band releases their debut concept album The Garden Where Parties Grow nationally on Saturday 16th December.

"Silent ReMasters has been a fantastic experience. The opportunity to learn from mentors with a vast wealth of experience and knowledge is invaluable, especially given that this is a direction Mr Wednesday is headed in the future." Duncan Campbell, Mr Wednesday.
