Arts SA Grant Recipients for Sept 06 Announced

Minister Assisting in the Arts John Hill has announced the recipients of $81,217 funding from the September round of Arts SA's grant program from the Live Music Fund.

Hip Hop artists have done well with two contenders for the inaugural 2005 Hilltop Hoods Initiative successful. A Devil Amongst The Tailors will receive recording and marketing and distribution funds for their second album. Their first album charted on Triple J hip hop charts. Luke Jenner from Co4Sure will receive a mentorship to improve his ability to create beats by increasing his sound engineering knowledge.

Female fronted acts have also done well. Illicit Eve, recently signed to New York publishers Silent Echo, will receive funding towards their new album, while the Fiddle Chicks will also receive funding towards their debut album. Zephyr Quartet will receive funding towards their second album of contemporary compositions, and singer-songwriter Esther Lamb has received funding towards her album.

Special Patrol, which has been receiving national airplay on Triple J, Triple M and Nova, will receive a total of $12,500 to promote their new album Handy Hints from the Undertaker.
The group will use $2,500 to market and distribute the album and $10,000 for a twenty-date
promotional tour of the east coast.

The Fiddle Chicks $4,320 to develop and produce a professional quality CD for local, national and international distribution

Huckleberry Swedes $7,500 to record and market a full length album

Illicit Eve $7,500 to record a ten track album and video clip to be released nationally through MGM distribution

Esther Lamb $6,730 to arrange and record 10 original songs under the guidance of producer Chris Dickie, making use of professional session players and the Australian String Quartet 'Fourplay'

Fear of Flying $2,500 marketing assistance and promotion for new Fear of Flying EP Migration

Special Patrol  $2,500 marketing and distribution of the Special Patrol  album Handy Hints from the Undertaker

CD for Release: Recording only

Mere Theory $5,000 to record a debut album of songs by Adelaide rock band Mere Theory

Zephyr Quartet $5,000 to record, mix, master and produce a world class CD of original music for String Quartet

Early Recording Assistance

MPC Rock Band $400 to produce a demo CD of new and original music in the hope of getting radio airplay and more gigs

Skills and Mentoring

Jonathan Hunt $2,800 to travel to New York for 10 days of intensive study with up to six of the worlds top jazz artists

Luke Jenner from Co4Sure $1,407 Mentorship with respected and outstanding Adelaide hip hop producer with the aim to further enhance hip hop production skills

Touring Assistance Regional & National

Angelik $8,157 Tour of the eastern states of Australia and regional South Australia in support of new CD single/EP release

Touring Assistance National

No Through Road $5,857 National live performance tour of forthcoming That Moment EP to be released through Unstable Ape Records in March 2007

Special Patrol  $10,000 to tour, promote and perform the works from the new full length Special Patrol album Handy Hints from the Undertaker throughout Australia
