SA Acts Scoop ARIA Awards | |
31/10/2006
It was a great year for SA music, with a few of the state's best known acts picking up Australia's highest accolades at the 2006 Aria Awards.
With 5 nominations under their belt, local hiphop act extraordinaire, The Hilltop Hoods nabbed 2 awards: Best Urban Release and Best Independent Release. The latter one must have the boys particularly chuffed, as they faced very stiff competition with indie legends the John Butler Trio and Ben Lee.
The Audreys also proved their mettle in the big league, taking out Best Blues & Roots Album in what has been described as 'the upset of the evening.' That's a matter of opinion, as any local fan could have predicted the SA act would beat out firm favourite Bernard Fanning and Xavier Rudd to take home the coveted and well-deserved award.
While SA's other representatives The Fairies, lost out to the Wiggles for Best Children's Album, one of the state's most intriguing noise-rock bands, Wolf & Cub, got a personal shout-out from Wolfmother, as they accepted one of their many awards of the evening. When the nation's most celebrated band calls your act 'one to watch', you know people will be listening!
