Samuel's Heart Benefit Samuel's Heart Benefit - presented by SCALA
On 4th June, award winning singer-songwriter and freelance journalist for Rip It Up magazine, Catherine Blanch, gave birth to her second son, Samuel William Shepherdson. Samuel was born by emergency caesarean and weighed just 2.7kg (6lb) at birth. Sadly, Samuel was born with two holes in his heart which will require surgery in Melbourne to correct. It's likely that a number of operations will be needed over a period of time which will mean considerable cost for Catherine and her partner Daryl Shepherdson.
To help the family pay for medical expenses, travel and accommodation SCALA (Songwriters, Composers And Lyricists Association) will hold a Special Samuel's Heart Benefit night at The Joiners Arms on Saturday 5th July.
A number of people who have performed or worked with Catherine over the years have already agreed to appear on the night including Catherine herself, Feel so... (Catherine's singing partnership with Caroline Perks), No Friends For Rolland Romanny, Casey Finlay & Ricky Hooper, Sarah Clifton, Martin Dodd, Fred Chiapolino, David Robinson, Jo Stuttley and Gary Burrows.
Catherine is a long term SCALA member who has won many awards for her songs which can be found on a number of SCALA CDs. She has contributed articles to SCALA News and also judged in a number of the organisation's competitions.
We wish her and her family all the best for the future, and encourage you to show your support on the 5th of July.
SCALA has also put a Donations button on its website at www.scala.org.au/venue.htm
