don't miss dean butterworth's drum clinic
The Drum Shop Derringers Music presents a special clinic by Dean Butterworth, the drummer for Good Charlotte. Adelaide is lucky enough to have Dean present a drum work shop here on Wednesday 2nd of November at the majestic Chapel Lane Studios. Dean will talk about his experiences and follow up his presentation with a break down of his drum solos and performance. At $10 a ticket you'll find this is a clinic for all ages and every musician, not to be missed.
Dean Butterworth has chops that go on for miles, but he's also occasionally a quintuple threat man, who can sing, play guitar, write ("She's Only Happy In The Sun" with Ben Harper), play piano, and more. Before he joined Good Charlotte he had a long stint with Ben Harper's Innocent Criminals, backed Morrissey and laid down tracks with everyone from Donovan Frankenreiter and The Used, to Cute Is What We Aim For and Hillary Duff.
Dean was born in Rochdale, Greater Manchester, England. He moved to America at age 10 and started learning to play the drums at age 12. During the early years Dean focused on the intricacies of jazz and fusion drumming, but after experiencing the chameleon-like way in which Stewart Copeland of The Police switched fluidly from one style to another, often within the same song, he began to branch out into many different styles. His stepfather, Patrick Shanahan, was also an influence on his drumming, advising him to learn a wide variety of musical styles. It is the versatility he gained back then which later allowed Dean to work with many different artists, including blues legend John Lee Hooker.
Dean plays Tama drums and hardware and Paiste cymbals.
