off the couch bands to hit the clipsal 500 stage
Carclew’s Off the Couch has announced two promising local acts to showcase their music at the Clipsal 500 Adelaide Bands on Track Schools Day, Thursday March 1, 2012.
Off the Couch in partnership with Music SA, has selected SouthCoast and 50 In The City to perform at the lunchtime concert which will be attended by thousands of students, teachers and parents.
“Bands on Track showcases South Australian live music over four days and nights at the Clipsal 500,” said Tara Lynch, Off the Couch Project Officer.
Tara added “The opportunity for Off the Couch to be involved with such an internationally recognised event is extremely exciting. Not only will two local acts perform but the Off the Couch event coordination team will experience exclusive behind the scenes insight into staging a large scale concert.”
The Bands on Track concert will form part of the wider Off the Couch series of six live music events which showcase and support original South Australian musicians and bands aged 26 and under.
Off the Couch events are programmed and delivered by a team of young and emerging event coordinators who participate in an intensive development and training program in publicity and promotions, marketing, programming, event production and delivery.
Since 1995 Off the Couch has provided performance and development opportunities for 2,500 young and emerging musicians and event coordinators, reaching a total audience of more than 65,000 live music enthusiasts.
The Schools Day Lunchtime Concert is part of the Bands on Track series which is run by Music SA in partnership with the SA Motor Sport Board.

about off the couch
Run annually for the past 16 years, Off the Couch is a series of youth delivered live music events with a focus on independent and unsigned artists. It’s helped participants forge successful music careers locally and interstate.
“Off the Couch enables musicians to start building a profile for themselves in the highly competitive world of popular music,” said Off the Couch coordinator Tara Lynch.
The 2012 series will see the exciting addition of ‘headliner bands’ to act as informal mentors to emerging bands and musicians. “I can’t drop names yet but expect some well known SA acts to feature in the gig line-ups,” said Tara.
Off the Couch live music events successfully showcase upcoming local talent to large audiences. “The 2011 Off the Couch program attracted record participant numbers and the six events drew the strongest crowds in the program’s history,” Tara added.
But it’s not just about musicians. Off the Couch events are programmed and delivered by a team of young and emerging event coordinators who participate in an intensive development and training program.
Under the guidance of industry professionals, Off the Couch team members gain hands-on experience in publicity and promotions, marketing, programming, production and delivery.
“Off the Couch is the ideal platform for young artists and event coordinators to start establishing professional connections that are crucial in forging a career in the music industry,” said Tara.
Since 1995 Off the Couch has provided performance and development opportunities for 2,500 young and emerging musicians and event coordinators, reaching a total audience of more than 65,000 live music enthusiasts.
