news: folk centre looking for help
Updated: 25 May 2010
Do you have treasury/accounting skills?
The Folk Federation of SA board is looking for a skilled Treasurer to join the board. They usually meet the last Thursday of every month at 6.30pm at the Folk Centre. Day to day finances are coordinated by a part time finance officer, and the skills of a qualified accountant (or well experienced treasurer) would be greatly received.
Volunteers
The Folk Federation of SA is on the lookout for skilled volunteers for duties like door take at events, bar coordination, cleaning/maintenance, event evaluation & admin duties. Volunteer benefits with the Folk Federation can be great, including free tickets to shows, beverages and more!
Infolkus by Email
The Folk Federation of SA is now happy to now provide their monthly magazine “Infolkus” by email. If you are a current member and would like to support their pockets and the environment, please contact the Folk Federation of SA with “Infolkus by Email”. If you’d like to apply, or reapply for membership, please contact the Folk Centre Coordinator.
Folk & Arts Register
The Folk Centre is currently undergoing some great changes, and is currently correlating information on the various artists, Folk clubs, sessions & Festivals around Adelaide & elsewhere in South Australia. They aim to provide people access to this information via ‘InFolkus’ & the FFSA web-site, using the Folk Federation as a resource. If you have information about gigs/sessions/events/festivals that you think they should promote, please contact board member Ron Higgins on ronh555@gmail.com with details.
Can you help with donations??
The Folk Centre is currently looking for donations of hardy plants to upgrade the garden and is also in need of a new oven and stovetop for the kitchen so that their regular community group ‘Women with Acquired Brain Injury’ can host cooking and craft days.
They are happy to hear from you regarding how you think the Folk Centre can become a better venue for YOU.
Please contact the coordinator for more information on any of the above.

Colonial Dancers
Founded in 1979, the Adelaide Colonial Dancers aim to preserve, revive and teach colonial dances, thus also fostering the charm of yesteryear. Colonial dances are those social dances popular in Australia from European settlement to Federation, including Polkas, Mazurkas, Waltzes and Quadrilles. Although common to the rest of the world, through isolation and ethnic heritage of towns and villages, many of these common dances have developed distinct regional flavours.
