CONTROL - The Mentor Program for Music Managers
Applications are now open for CONTROL - a new, dynamic four stage program offered by AMIN in conjunction with the Cultural Minister’s Council.
CONTROL will be held near Sydney in Terrigal 15-18 Sep 2008.

CONTROL, the dynamic new four stage program designed to equip music managers with crucial business skills, is now calling for applications. Music managers from around the country are encouraged to apply. The program is presented by the Australian Music Industry Network (AMIN), and supported by the Association of Artist Managers and APRA.
CONTROL will incorporate a residential lab to be held near Sydney from 15-18 September 2008. Music industry advocate and lawyer, Shane Simpson, will run the residential lab, working with a number of advisers including leading UK music manager Peter Jenner (Pink Floyd, Billy Bragg. Ian Dury) and Australian based managers Bill Cullen (Paul Kelly, Sarah Blasko, End of Fashion) and Michael McMartin (Hoodoo Gurus).
CONTROL will provide music managers with practical guidance on developing and maintaining sustainable businesses. It will include a comprehensive review of the different business models found in the contemporary music sector, as well as deep analysis of each business model brought to the lab.
The course structure in brief comprises:
STAGE 1
An online tutorial in SWOT analysis and business planning to be completed by all participants prior to commencement of the residential workshop.
STAGE 2
A residential workshop to be held in Terrigal NSW from 15-18 September.
STAGE 3
Post workshop preparation of a business plan to be delivered late November 2008.
STAGE 4
One-to-one feedback on the submitted Business Plan in December 2008.
The course content in brief comprises:
+ the SWOT analysis;
+ strategic business planning;
+ case studies of successful and failed business models in the contemporary music sector.
+ Business financing
Funding Specifications
All meals, accommodation and tuition during the workshop will be provided at no cost to participants. Travel will be at each participant’s expense. No fee will be paid to participants.
