2008 Hilltop Hoods Initiative Opens
With platinum album sales, nationwide sell-out shows and a passionate fan base growing worldwide, Hilltop Hoods have firmly established themselves as one of the premier acts in the Australian music industry.
Hilltop Hoods have recognised the wealth of Hip Hop talent in South Australia and are continuing with the Initiative, demonstrating their commitment to re-investing into the scene that has given them so much support along their road to success. This year’s winners will receive $5,000, yet another demonstration of the group’s commitment to the Australian Hip Hop scene & will once again reveal the depth of Hip Hop talent found in S.A.
The annual Hilltop Hoods Initiative was established in 2005 in association with Arts SA & Carclew Youth Arts, which was originally made possible by an annual $3,000 bequest from the Hilltop Hoods. The Initiative aims to help emerging South Australian Hip Hop artists to manufacture, market and distribute an original CD, including two mentorship sessions with Hilltop Hoods’ Co-manager, PJ Murton.
Since winning the 2005 Initiative, inaugural winners—General Knowledge have gone from strength to strength, including the recent release of MC Detail’s debut album and with the 2nd G.K. Album currently nearing completion - www.myspace.com/gkcrew
2006 winner Subsketch ’s debut LP “Cheaper Tjhan therapy’ was released recently to rave reviews & has gained airplay on Fresh FM & Nova 919. His next gig is at the Jade Monkey on Thursday 19th June - www.myspace.com/subsketch
