About the Workshop
In this exclusive series of clips, recorded at the recent Fuse Marketing Workshop in February 2007, VIP Speakers give their best tips on pitching CDs to radio, managing bands, touring, getting music grants and of course, putting together a solid marketing plan. The 2 session workshop presented a free opportunity for SA artists, and helped participants develop the basis of a professional marketing plan to support their own ventures.
The vodcast is a must-see for anyone applying for assistance through ArtsSA Contemporary Music Grant Program, releasing a CD or preparing for a tour. The vodcast (divided into specific questions below) was recorded during a "Panel Information Session" (Night 1 of the workshops, Tues 13 Feb 2007), which featured VIP Guest Speakers from across the country:
- Keith Walsh - The Music Network
- Alistair Cranney - What Management, Fuse
- John Zucco - The Right Profile
- Mel Van Deventer - Nova 919
- Elizabeth Reid - MusicSA
Held at the Governor Hindmarsh Hotel , the session involved introductions to the speakers' area of expertise, their advice on a range of topics for improving a band's marketing plan and activities, and a Question & Answer section which tailored information to the participants' specific needs. For the next session (Tues 20 Feb 2007; not recorded), participants had been given 'homework', to make notes for the marketing aspects of their own projects (e.g. recording a CD, interstate touring, and even just gaining a local profile). The session followed-up on the panel's advice, and examined the participant's projects within a small group atmosphere. The peer assessment and round table discussions were supported by Fuse Festival Event Coordinators/Promoters and MusicSA staff.
Not only were the sessions a fantastic source of new knowlege and tips for participants, the series also afforded participants an important opportunity to network with some high profile industry representatives and peers. The vodcast (below) offers an ongoing resource for SA artists to benefit from the sessions, but is a mere snapshot of the event as a whole. SA artists are encouraged to continue to seek out and attend these outstanding opportunities, to take advantage of the help and support on offer from the Australian music industry.
