finalists announced 2012 spin dj comp at fringe

The Fringe Benefits Spin DJ Competition is back again to uncover Adelaide’s best DJs, giving one lucky winner the chance to play their own set at the exclusive Fringe Club where artists, VIPs and industry big-wigs hang out during Adelaide Fringe!

DJ Ryley, DJ Anarchy and Mode Masters have made the finals of the 2012 Spin DJ Competition which will see them compete live during the Adelaide Fringe on March 9.

Mash-up master, DJ Ryley (Ryley Smithson) has been mixing tunes since he was fifteen and last year represented South Australia at the national Red Bull Thre3style competition. “I started DJing at an underage church disco when I was a teenager…I was horrible! I'm glad the kids had no taste in music or I would have been booed off. After heaps of practice, thankfully those days are long gone and I can hold a decent crowd now!” laughs Ryley.

Bouncing from electro and dubstep to moombahton, the high-energy DJ Anarchy (Phillip Janicki) has been playing since 2009 and has more recently started producing his own tracks. “In my performance you can expect to hear a blend between some commercial elements and some heavy heavier electro with bass,” says Phillip.

Mode Masters, the only duo to make the finals, combines a turntablist (DJ HobG) and a self-confessed techno geek (DJ Rgon) who love to fuse all kinds of electronic styles and have impressed audiences with their unique technical skills.

Held in the exclusive Fringe Club artist bar, the competition will be part of Private Grounds - a new industry night co-hosted by Rip It Up Magazine.

The winner will be announced on the night by a team of judges from Adelaide Fringe, Onion Magazine and Nova 919, scoring their own gig in the Fringe Club on March 15 plus Derringers Music gear and an interview in Onion Magazine.

The Spin DJ Competition is run by Fringe Benefits – a free membership program for 18 to 30 year olds which offers cheap tickets and hot deals in Adelaide all year round.
