ep: hook, sinker and line
The Readymades are an Adelaide three piece band who have been performing together since November 2006. Their current EP titled Hook, Sinker and Line was released May 1st 2010 and is a great insight of what is ahead for this quirky trio.
Hook, Sinker and Line honestly reflects the bands diverse range of musical influences such as Blondie, Red Hot Chili Peppers and the Grates, with this is mind The Readymades have firmly placed their own unique sound on this EP.
The eclectic sounds of the album clearly demonstrate the musical talents of Kate (vocals/guitar), Sam (bass/vocals) and Jo (drums/ vocals). The Readymades have allowed their influences to complement their sound but have remained true to keeping their songs unique.
Hook, Sinker and Line is an idiosyncratic blend of original songs with an explosion of tasty pop without the bubblegum. The lyrical talent of the band can really be heard in the track ‘Horatio', its sound is very fresh and energetic with quality guitar playing and unusual sounds that crop up at any given moment.
The track ‘Rip Off' albeit short, expresses Sam's eccentric enthusiasm for wanting to have fun with the music. The band's desire to involve the audience in the enjoyment they have in their music is expressed in these tracks; this is one thing that makes their band different from their musical influences with a twist of fun.
The high energy levels are not present throughout the whole EP. It could be suggested that with louder sounding vocals and guitar this could be achieved.
If you like their musical influences this band is a ‘must see' live and will encourage you to have as much fun listening as they are performing.
