The debut record from Tomorrow Is introduces a seven track collection of uplifting pop rock tunes that explore majestic melodies and soaring choruses, interlaced with passionate lyrics that are the backbone of this group. It’s all present on first track ‘Everything Has Changed’, a soul quenching pop number very much in the vein of Snow Patrol. Jangly guitars and lead singer Paul Platt’s vocals feature strongly on the track, as do the female harmonies provided by pianist Tahlia DeCorso.
The Snow Patrol comparison is present throughout the album, with lead singer Platt’s voice like a cross between Gary Lightbody (Snow Patrol) and Ed Kowalczyk (Live). Along with DeCorso, the album features their boy-girl harmonies that come off as endearing instead of cutesy, which is a relief.
‘Ruby’ is a robust number about convincing someone that you want them to be yours, while ‘Wake Up Earth Boy’ and ‘Consequences’ are both uplifting guitar tracks that showcase Platt’s vocal range. ‘Away’ is the ballad of the album, with Platt’s aching voice over the subtle sounds of a piano pulling at the heartstrings.
The standout is the commercial twinged ‘Distant Voices’, showcasing everything that is great about this band; Platt’s vocals, melodic guitar riffs and heartfelt lyrics.
Tomorrow Is have perfected the art of the 3 and a half to 4 minute pop song with February Skies, getting the most out of their sound without compromise. These guys are definitely one band to keep an eye on over the next 12 months.
