Amy Richardson Biography

Amy Richardson

Genre:

Amy has a unique and memorising voice. She comes from a long line of country musicians and yodellers, giving her an identifiable vibrato style.

Amy’s childhood influences have marked her as a songwriter. With fond memories of large family song-a-longs, Amy has been encouraged to sing by a supportive music family. Having grown up in Mt Gambier, (Hometown of Kasey Chambers) Amy’s music, vocal style and lyrics are reflective of her country upbringing. This influence combined with artistic vulnerability, isolation and loneliness, which comes from living and working away from her hometown, defines her as an artist.

The raw emotion in her song “Black Wig”, on the Show Us Your Riffs compilation CD, demonstrates this.

TRACK 1
“Black Wig”  3:13
In Amy’s song “Black Wig” she sings about her metaphoric dark cloud, a veil of depression that keeps her from true love and happiness. It is a revealing song. The simplicity and sparseness of the track, the howling slide guitar and haunting lyrics create a lush sound scape reminiscent of Coldplay, but with a truly Australian sound, comparable to a swampy female version of Tex Perkins.
