Aviator Lane Biography

Aviator Lane

Genre: Pop/rock

Recording directly onto a desktop computer using only an SM58 microphone is just about as basic as it gets. This is exactly how Michael Radzevicius created “We Found the Colony, Now We Have Peace”, the closing track from the self-titled Aviator Lane EP. The other five tracks were recorded in a not too dissimilar fashion with Jon Ashley (from Brer Mouse), except in Melbourne instead of Adelaide, and with far better microphones.

The self-titled EP is the second from Aviator Lane, following 2005’s “Today, the Hills Are Closed”, which was also recorded in Melbourne at Standalone Studios with Marty Brown (Art of Fighting, Clare Bowditch & the Feeding Set, Sodastream). This time the songs are much more concise and even somewhat upbeat by Aviator Lane standards, drawing comparisons to The Album Leaf, Pedro the Lion, Red House Painters, Art of Fighting, American Analog Set, Explosions in the Sky and Mogwai.

The Aviator Lane EP was released through Patterns in Static in late April and launches occurred in Adelaide, Sydney and Melbourne. It placed #10 in Adelaide's Three D Radio annual Top 100+1 countdown for 2006, with the Comfort is Shifting radio only single coming in at #61.

Aviator Lane has been allowed onstage at different times of the same night with bands such as Low (USA), Okkervil River (USA), Jason Molina (USA), The Willard Grant Conspiracy (USA), Sodastream, Holly Throsby, Dappled Cities Fly, Dan Kelly, Disaster Plan, Because of Ghosts, Gersey, Clare Bowditch & the Feeding Set, Adam Said Galore, The Tigers, The Silvermine Tapes, Deloris, No Through Road, Wolf & Cub, plus many others. These shows have so far occurred in Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney, Perth, Fremantle and London.
