Aviator Lane
Genre:, Pop/rock
Aviator Lane have been establishing themselves as one of Adelaide's quiet achievers over the last few years and, with the inception of their permanent full band lineup, are now beginning to consolidate their position as one of Adelaide's most consistent, and consistently praised, indie rock outfits. After releasing 2 EPs in consecutive years (2005/06) to acclaim in both Australia and overseas, touring in Europe and supporting acts such as Low, Okkervil River, Jason Molina, Willard Grant Conspiracy, Holly Throsby, Sodastream et al, along with playing at the 2008 Adelaide Laneway Festival, Aviator Lane released their debut album, Common Distance, in June 2009. Here's what some people have had to say about it: “A quietly effective debut … The band skilfully mesh electronics, guitars and indie pop in a hushed, tasteful manner. *** ” Rave Magazine, June 2009. “‘Common Distance’, the debut album from locals Aviator Lane, is a dramatic, occasionally sombre, and mostly serious one. It’s also very good, combining a number of disparate genres and tying them together with a strong sense of lyricism and structure.” dB Magazine, June 2009. “Everything is as pretty as possible with Aviator Lane. Treated guitars glisten with hazy hues, drums and electronic percussion bubble like champagne, and bass lines tug it all along without ever getting in the way.” Mess + Noise, June 2009.
“There's tightness and welterweight muscularity to their sound that seems to be the hallmark of many great three-pieces … 'Common Distance' regularly glistens with tender guitars and carefully stroked snares - it's often captivating stuff and you can almost see the Flinders Ranges glistening in the distance.” Scene Magazine, July 2009.
Following their most successful national tour to date to launch Common Distance, Aviator Lane are planning more shows in coming months with rising Adelaide indie/dance kids Fire! Santa Rosa, Fire! and folk/rock maestros Bye Bye Mountain (ex-Little Ice Age).
Aviator Lane are also playing the Coopers Alive 09 Showcase at the Jade Monkey on October 23 with Bing Goes to Monaco and Wintermild. Following that they are heading into the studio in November/December to record the followup to Common Distance, slated for release in early 2010.
