The Baker Suite
Genre:Acoustic, Folk, Jazz, Pop, World
From the heart and reminiscent of a smoky, French café, The Baker Suite create a seductive and potent world, carrying the listener with them through their elegant ballads, gypsy romantica and lurching night waltzes.
The group’s lush instrumentation, coupled with award winning Australian musician Paul Grabowsky on piano, ignite this rich and delicious performance that reflects on love, family and strangeness.
Paul Grabowsky produced The Baker Suite’s 2010 album, A Quartet for Car Horns and Brakes. Since its release, the group has toured internationally to sold out shows and standing ovations.
The Baker Suite is: John Baker (guitar, vocals), Gayle Buckby (accordion, vocals), Lyndon Gray (double bass) and BJ Barker (drums). They are occasionally joined by Paul Grabowsky on piano.
"John Baker, who writes the songs, has a whispering, almost raspy, vocal style – think Leonard Cohen or Jack Johnson. His acoustic guitar is subtle, rhythmic and tasteful, while Buckby gives the band her distinctive sound with her gloriously melancholic accordion.” The Independent Weekly
“Pithy pop for thinking people.” Sydney Morning Herald
International and national festival performances include:
Okayama Cultural Festival (Japan); Nelson Arts Festival (NZ), Adelaide Festival of Arts, International Guitar Festival, National Folk Festival, Barossa Vintage Festival, Barossa Gourmet Festival, Semaphore Music Festival (Aus).
