EXPRESIONES

‘Latin American instruments and rhythms are fused with funk, rock and reggae to create a fresh new sound’

What does Expresiones sound like???

Imagine the music from the Andes (like the guys from the mall), tropical Caribbean beats and Mexican ballads, all mashed together into a ball and on the other side you squeeze funk, rock, reggae, jazz and a pinch of roots all together , and throw them toward each other!!! The fusion when they meet is what Expresiones sounds like.

How does Expresiones achieve this fusion?

Latin American instruments like the Haunting Andean Sikus (panpipes) and the melodic Kena (Andean flute). The Colombian Tiple (medium size 12 string guitar) and finally the 10 string Andean treasure, the Charango. Expresiones merge these instruments with keyboard, guitar, bass and a drum kit to create a distinctive ensemble.

Who is Expresiones?

Expresiones is a 6 piece band made up of the very talented Espinosa brothers, Noni  on guitar and lead vocals and Jaime panpipes and kena flute. Adding to the vocals and percussion is the talented song writer Jaime, dad to the brothers. Tony is the keyboards and percussion expert in Expresiones. Newly arrived to Australia and the youngest member of the band Jose is a very experienced bass player. Finally the multi rhythmic drummer Michael keeps the band in time.

Expresiones started in the early 90’s as a project group that was involved in a Fringe Out West performance. Since then the group has had major changes. In the late 90’s Expresiones became known for its’ distinctly Andino Funk sounds. This sounds allowed Expresiones to perform in venues such as The Rhino Room, The Tiv, The Gov and many more, also the venue Expresiones calls home, Nexus Cabaret and 2 Victor Harbour Folk Fest. In 2010 Expresiones started with a bang by having a sold out show during the Adelaide Fringe Festival at the Folk Centre.
