Dexter Jones is a four-piece alt-pop-rock act from Adelaide, Australia. With their catchy guitar driven riffs, vocal harmony hooks, and up-tempo beats, Dexter Jones have been likened to acts such as Franz Ferdinand and The Hives.
The band has teamed up with Tim Pine to produce a film clip for their latest single 'DCF'. Without giving too much away, the clip involves clowns trashing kids parties and bikini girls with over a cast and crew of 40 - it’s turned out to be one hell of a spectacle and they can't wait to celebrate its release on 13th August at the Ed Castle.
Dexter Jones is not “post modern”, it’s a post-POST modern band: The songs are derived from a wide range of modern musical styles. In each instance, the genre is chosen for its fancied appropriateness to the lyrics, or vice versa. The band has chosen not to follow any one system or philosophy in their song writing. Instead, selecting what they consider to be the best aspects of popular music of the late 20th Century, Dexter Jones serve up an eclectic mish-mash of pop sounds that are still somehow cohesive and new to the 21st century ear. Front man Matt Soang stirs up a laconic yet melodic mission while the rest of the band thrum and riff around him, culminating in the striking harmonies of their sing-along choruses.
Dexter Jones are currently in pre-production for their much anticipated debut album release and has been pertaining to works of musical architecture, sound decoration and frequency landscaping.
In the meantime, their new video clip has already received spins on Rage and will be released to the through Valleyarm (www.valleyarm.com) after August 13. Director Tim Pine, in talking about how quick rage played the video on tv said, "Really? I didn't know it was airing so soon. I heard Rage only got it late last week. Clowns, mob bosses and public urination must have impressed the bosses at Rage to get put on top of the list, or it's just that Dexter Jones have one catchy tune... Yeah I think that's it."
