Loren Kate’s latest delight, Your Own Little Ocean is a beautifully simple record brimming with unconditional love and gratitude. This little 5-track snapshot captures a very special moment in the South Australian-based singer-songwriter’s life and radiates a sense of perfect contentedness and the bliss of a mother-to-be.
“Your Own Little Ocean” was recorded in just two days at Crank Studios in Perth and features exceptional cello playing from Mel Robinson (John Butler Trio, Missy Higgins, Tim Rogers) as the sole accompanist. Although songs such as 'Ukeaby Baby' (a heart-warming ukulele interlude) and the title track keep it rugged up in a definitively maternal blanket, the record manages to reach beyond the realm of expectant motherhood and communicate a more universal joy that can’t help but be shared with anyone listening.
Since the release of her debut album, Brand New Shoes, Loren Kate has clearly reached new ground in her songwriting. Coupling this with her awe-inspiring voice and sweet harmonies makes Your Own Little Ocean float through its musings of love and appreciation of life with such effortless grace and beauty it’s as if the songs have written themselves.
Your Own Little Ocean was released nationally today (6 Sept 2010) through Vitamin and will be available at www.vitamin.net.au and from all good music stores.
