After releasing just one track online, Adelaide electro pop /rock duo Mammoth Logic (ML) caught the attention of triple j radio, becoming unearthed feature artist of the week recently. They hit the airways with their “Nice blend of old and new school sounds” (-Richard Kingsmill) and “catchy electro pop” (-Dom Alesio).
The duo are launching their EP on Friday 3rd September at Rocket Bar, Adelaide. This follows successful shows at The Governor Hindmarsh Hotel and Rocket Bar earlier in 2010. Play / Pause / Play online described a Rocket show in April:
“The overall sound sometimes hit the 'arena' epicness of The Presets while at other times hung more around 1980's-era New Order, with Daft Punk-esque choruses thrown in for good measure. It was really, really cool. Mammoth Logic could well be one of those bands that comes out of nowhere and surprises everyone“.
Mammoth Logic have also been getting attention from Nova FM. The duo’s first single ‘Met on Mars’ - a hit-you-in-the-face garage electro-pop number, continues to get constant airplay. A spot in the Nova SA Heaps Good Band competition has led to a publicity venture which stopped traffic, literally, when the pair drove a big red tractor down Adelaide’s Rundle Street, dressed in monkey suits. Yes, really.
To whet the appetite a little more, Mammoth Logic co-released the track ‘In the Fire’, which Onion magazine described as,“sweet synth pop...’In The Fire’ takes you back to the ‘80s with its Depeche Mode and New Order electronic pop sensibilities.
Mammoth Logic is Reid Jones and Dave Crowe. Both in their 20s, they are songwriters and producers, and both have a background in classical and jazz music. Jones toured nationally on sax with the Ray Charles Experience while also managing clubs and playing with live electronic act The Operators. Dave Crowe has played violin and keys on tour, and written songs for string orchestras and rock groups alike. He was a finalist in the Jaxter national songwriting competition with Brisbane experimental rock outfit ‘Ithaca’ and his classical scores have received airplay and recording with the ABC.
So make sure to mark your calendar for the EP launch Rocket Bar on the 3rd of September, and head to the Music SA Contest Corner for your chance to win a copy of the EP.
