Christian Oliver & Mr Goodnight are one of the hot acts to watch in 2011. Effortlessly blending a mix of Soul, Funk, Pop and RnB, there is an obvious focus on quality song-writing and technical ability of their chosen instruments. Their live shows are an explosion of musical energy, wailing guitar solos and spontaneous dancing that are guaranteed to get you moving.
2011 has been a huge year for Mr Goodnight with countless performances, radio shows, festival appearances (including an extended set at the Inaugural Kangaroo Island Surf/Music Festival) and much more!
Now the band is set to release their new EP ‘For You’ at the very same venue they played their first gig: The Crown & Sceptre on 16 December.
The 6 track EP was recorded at one of Adelaide’s most respected recording studios, Mixmasters, and mixed/mastered overseas by Dutch engineer Jeremy Ebell. The result is an incredible blend of Neo Soul, Pop, Funk and Rock. Within two weeks, the three tracks made available to Triple J Unearthed have reached numbers 2, 3 and 4 on the charts and are still climbing.
So what kind of music should you expect to hear at a Goodnight show or on an EP? Well with a 7 piece line up consisting of Christian Oliver - vocals, Cam Blokland - guitar, Darcy Callus - keys, Dave Duncan - saxophone, Marty Holoubek - bass, Remie de Pree - drums and Nick Pietsch - trombone, the influences are wonderfully unique and varied, drawing from the Retro soul of Aloe Blacc, the hip stylings of John Legend, the pop licks of Prince and the musicality of Jamiroquai.
Mr Goodnight are planning on touring Australia in early 2012 so make sure you get to the launch on the 16th before they head interstate and you miss out!
