Adelaide based contemporary-folksters Traveller & Fortune play bittersweet folk songs. Lilting melodies, subtle and soaring harmonies, saxophone, double bass, keys, ukulele and mandolin combine to create something unique: Something big and dark and folky; something whimsical; something that would tie itself to a bunch of helium balloons and try to fly. They will be releasing a new collection of songs on Sunday 7 August 2011 at the Jade Monkey.

For this release all songs were recorded live at Adelaide’s Chappel Lane Studios in an effort to, as close as possible, resemble the band’s recent live performances. This time around the band is aiming for more moody instrumentals and even bigger, lusher harmonies throughout several new songs and some re-worked old ones.

Currently, Traveller & Fortune are comprised of: Sophia, Double Bass; Al, Ukulele, Saxophone, Xylophone, Percussion; Tom, Guitar, Harmonica, Mandolin; and Jayne, Keys, Guitar. All players sing. The players combine years of song writing and performing with a diverse musical background of Classical, Contemporary, Jazz, Choral, and Alternative music.

Traveller came together on short notice for a month of Friday night shows. The haphazard shows were filled with zeal, and the excitement of something unknown unfolding: ideas were seeded and new songs grew; Traveller & Fortune emerged.

The songs were received with praise and the band cemented a place in the Adelaide music scene, currently dominated by indie-rock and pop outfits, by honing their passionate live performances during 2010. This endeavour has proved fruitful, and each show endears more Adelaide music lovers to the band.

Eager to launch their EP, Traveller & Fortune has invited Melbourne based songwriter Ryan Meeking over for the night to perform an exclusive solo set. The Jade Monkey's doors open at 7pm and entry to the event includes a copy of the new record. Pre-sale entry to the event is $10 and tickets can be purchased from the band via facebook.com/travellerandfortune entry on the night is $15.

Copies of the new record will only be available at this event (with the exception of the band's interstate friends who request one), and in the Music SA Contest Corner....
