Studying for their music honours performance degrees (classical) at the elder conservatorium, the Candida kids also had a need to break out into the rockier side of life, thus, CANDIDA was born.
All four members member have a plethora of professional performance experience and musical drive and together, they’re a wholly engaging, theatrical, danceable and absorbing unit, which spontaneously combusts in a controlled show environment to satisfy every soul in the house.
Currently professional musicians in their own right (including performing/touring with The Cat Empire, Adelaide Symphony Orchestra and the Australian Youth Orchestra to name a few), Candida sure know how to work a crowd into a dancing frenzy with their unique Electronica-Groove Rock sound which features virtuosic electric-viol.
Candida have already extended their reach across Australia with nation-wide airplay of to-be-released ‘Mystery’ on Triple-J, prompting a flurry of activity on their Unearthed website and various other ‘net-presences. It wasn’t long before Candida were being hailed as “Adelaide’s premier electro-funk-rock act…” and “the most unique sound in Adelaide at the moment…” We say judge for yourselves.
Since their first demo CD ‘Telstar’ topped the SA charts not so long ago, fixated eyes waited for Candida’s next move as they promised to ‘hone in their sound’ towards something stellar-regional. But, would it be possible to harness their orchestral-orientated and technically proficient backgrounds? In a competition where the Australasian public decide what bands THEY like the sound of, Candida, once again, came out on top. Their double Big Day Out MP3-competition success (coming 2nd in ’05 AND ’06) certainly suggests the masses appreciate very highly.
Coming up on March 6th ‘08, Candida’s ‘BAND WAGON’ (Adelaide Fringe Festival event) is set to turn the CBD on it’s height-restricted head as their decked out truck roams free with Candida atop cranking out set after set thanks to the generous support of our buddies at Billy Hyde Music and Event Power and Lighting. There is also talk of a regional SA tour and a Melbourne tour (with JB-SMAK ) later in the year. But before that on March 22nd, Candida are very excited to be launching their debut single ‘Mystery’ at brand-new CHANNEL (Gouger St.) via a party extravaganza with the help of very special guests ‘JB-SMAK’ and ‘GRUBENSTYLE ’ and various other ‘surprises!’ Whatever happens just make sure you’re at CHANNEL by 8pm, because you don’t want to miss them for the funkin’ world!
