So...who are The Neverbells?
They are four guys and a girl playing sweet bluesy folk/pop numbers. The Neverbells formed in Adelaide in 2008 when Amr Zaid (acoustic guitar/bass), Kaliah Alice (vocals) and Mike Raine (piano and keys) started jamming. Amr's pop sensibilities and songwriting expertise, Mike’s percussive playing and writing style, and Kaliah’s knack for soulful, blues-inflected vocal melodies came together perfectly like three jigsaw pieces. A few months later the puzzle was completed when Chris Marshall brought his percussive talents along, and the guitar panache of Joe Del Bono further strengthened the band.
The Neverbells pedigree includes a wealth of industry experience, Amr being an ARIA award nominee with experience including The Reading Festival, The Big Day Out and headlining the Livid Festival; Kaliah winning an AWESAM award, attaining an MTV award nomination and touring to the South by South West Festival in Texas.
With this knowledge and enthusiasm, prolific songwriting swiftly ensued resulting in an ever-growing set brimming with dynamic songs from up-tempo pop to slow, sweet and melancholic. Before long, The Neverbells found themselves playing their first gig to a very receptive crowd at the Higher Ground Art Café. The great vibe produced an amazing show, and this was just the beginning. Further gigs at such hallowed Adelaide venues as the Grace Emily Hotel, The Governor Hindmarsh and The Exeter followed.
In the last year The Neverbells have grown as a band and the jigsaw pieces are now locked together. The recording of their debut release "Dreamland" has been a joyful adventure, and with the guidance of engineer/producer Corey Hosking at Chapel Lane Studios, the end result is truly something special.
