Pimpin' Horus play funk music. We’re talking ‘bout that old-school, syncopated funk/rock sound, baby, inspired by the likes of Hendrix, The Meters, P-Funk, the Chili Peppers and the Cruel Sea.
Yeah, they all used to play in "other bands you’ve probably never heard of".... but they have honed their craft, and when fate brought Pimpin’ Horus together in early 2008, they hit the ground running.
In their brief history, the band has already headlined the Jim Beam End of Term Party at Adelaide University, played a festival in Port Lincoln, made the interstate trek for some gigs, and just won first prize (and a wad of cash) in the Norwood/Payneham/St Peters councils’ “Mullet Festival."
Now Pimpin' Horus have just had their debut EP "Down for the Money" arrive back from New York, where they suggest that the mastering process has infused it with "the same pedigree as legends like Jimi Hendrix and Led Zeppelin."
Brimming with confidence, the lads insist that "we’re not saying we’re that good, just that sonically, our tracks will stand their own alongside anything else you care to flank ‘em with." And that’s why Pimpin’ Horus is allowing people to download their debut EP, “Down for the Money”, for free from their official website - so you can come to your own conclusions.
But there's no denying that these crazy funk-rock deities beat a slew of great bands for the Mullet Fest title, love what they do, and let that enjoyment translate into a fun and frenetic live show. There are great things in store for the funk-rock community, so keep an ear out - their next gig’s just around the corner....
