The Sea Thieves
MusicSA Feature Artist 24 March - 14 April 2008 At long last alt. country duo THE SEA THIEVES are treating fans to a debut LP “Hiding in the Shade” - a collection of 'dusty samples and old instruments.' Featuring a distinctive sound that is all their own, expect to hear the pluck of the ukulele, the wheezing of bellows, the singing of a saw and the dulcet vocals of Naomi Thompson and Zac Coligan.
Naomi & Zac are no strangers to the local scene. Also known affectionately as the owners/operators of Adelaide indie venue extraordinaire, The Jade Monkey, their passionate support of original live music over the years has made a significant impact on SA. Zac also hails from an impressive musical pedigree as the bass player/vocalist in popular 90s act Bergerac, notching up three EPs, two albums and a nine year history of live shows. This included two performances at the Big Day Out and supports with the Breeders, Pavement and Elastica to name a few.
In 2004 he & Naomi joined forces musically for the 1st time under the moniker “Eiderdown”, where tracks from popular EP “Summer Of The Red Wolf” were aired regularly on local radio and nationally on Triple J. Spurred on by the warm response to the EP and their charming live shows, the newly dubbed 'Sea Thieves' spent a year and a half tinkering on "Hiding in the Shade".
The LP has already earned them a deal with renowned Aussie label Inertia , and is set for release in early May. A tour is also in the works as we speak, but you can catch the SA CD launch on Sunday 4 May at the Edinburgh Castle. Joining The Sea Thieves for the occasion will be Melbourne's Girls & Adam, who are heading over just for the show. A sweet release by a special band - one not to miss.... |
