The Fiddle Chicks
Genre:Acoustic, Alt. Country, Folk, Roots, World
The Fiddle Chicks started out as a musical experiment, creating a unique minimalist sound. From their inspiring originals to unique arrangements of songs from the rich heritage of folk music, The Fiddle Chicks have proven themselves to be one of SA’s most endearing and original acts. Their musical style range from Traditional Celtic, European, Gypsy, Blues and Roots and American Folk, but it is their original compositions and rich fiddle soundscapes utilising some clever digital effects, which really shine through. Winners of APRA’s 2008 “Emily Burrows Award” & 8 SA Folk Awards 2006-8.
'The Chicks' have attracted growing numbers of followers Nationally, with overflowing venues at their gigs and tremendous support for their CDs at Festivals and concerts.
Is it because of their wit and humour?(!) Or their unusual fiddle playing tricks? The diversity of musical styles in which they write and arrange? Their awards? The lack of guitars (and blokes!)? Maybe it’s their talent and energy on stage? Probably the nice hats have helped too!
"Great choice of material, wonderful arrangements and superb playing.” Dave O'Neil, Artistic Director National Folk Festival
Emma, Dee and Kim are all accomplished instrumental teachers, which has added to their interest in studying and learning about different traditions and styles of playing to pass onto their students, from children to adults. They have also taught many workshops around Australia at Festivals and schools in which they show their ‘Fiddle Tricks’, and they especially love to work with young players and inspire them that violins can be cool! Between the three Chicks they’ve played music for 90 years- and they don’t look like old bags yet!
