Goldstein Biography Goldstein
Genre: Folk, Roots
Goldstein is an Adelaide-based folk and roots band that has built a reputation as being fun, professional and entertaining live performers. The four piece plays upbeat original songs about life in Australia and has received national radio play.
Described as an "awesome Aussie band" by Triple J Roots n’ All presenter Sarah Howells and “gutsy, heartfelt, tuneful and Ostentatiously Oz in sound, my new favourite Australian band†by Peter Goers of the Sunday Mail, Goldstein's storytelling style music is in the true folk tradition and appeals to young and old alike. Goldstein was also chosen to support the Whitlams for their August 08 tour of South Australia.
Goldstein has just released a new album described as a suburban storybook of original tales about backyard cricket and brushes with celebrity to packaged overseas bus tours and New Years Eve fizzers. The album has received regular play on Triple J and other mainstream and folk/roots-based programs.
Formed in mid 2006, Goldstein is Adam Hooper (vocals, guitar, accordion, harmonica, piano), Ben Hooper (fiddle), Robin Pratt (bass guitar, vocals), Jeremy Owen (drums and vocals).
Goldstein’s unique style, instrumentation and lyrics have it sitting firmly in the folk tradition. It’s honest storytelling supported by simple progressions and repeated melody lines. The songs are about events and reflections on growing up and living in Australia that everyone can relate to and get a kick out of.
The band’s first album Spurs on my Boots was released last year and received excellent reviews and national radio airplay including on Triple J. The harmonica and accordion get more attention on Goldstein’s second album Out to Sea released in June 2008. They add some color and variation to complement the traditional fiddle, bass, acoustic guitar and drums set up.
The music has been likened to icon bands Redgum and Wedding Parties Anything. As the folk/roots band in residence at the Daniel O’Connell Hotel, Goldstein is also a popular performer on the live circuit in Adelaide with regular spots at the major live venues including the Governor Hindmarsh and Wheatsheaf.
Goldstein has been an invited guest performer at the Festival Centre, a MusicSA featured artist, ABC Radio and Radio Adelaide Live Music Festival guest performer, and attracted considerable media exposure in Adelaide. This year Goldstein has been invited to play at the Fleurieu Folk Festival and Semaphore Music Festival.
