Genre: Alt. Country, Roots The Huckleberry Swedes sound is pretty unique, but if you want to put a label on it, try ...the missing link between Ryan Adams and Jeff Tweedy (Wilco) The warm, amber glow, the crack in the door that invites you in, are songs such as 'Cast a line' - a classic loss of innocence tale , 'Black gold' - a yearning protest song that would make Woody Guthrie proud, and the underdog anthem 'Hair Trigger'. These songs work because they are honest; something you can share, like wholesome stew, like good advice. Huckleberry Swedes, are a four piece featuring BJ Barker on drums, Sam Willoughby on bass/vox, Mark Elberg on lead guitar/vox and Troy Loakes on vox/ acoustic guitar. A deft live act, they play with empathy and dynamics but are also capable of rocking out. The Huckleberry's have gained a lot momentum recently with tours both here and abroad and air play of the EP 'Hair Trigger' on local, regional and national radio. They're a featured band on 3d radio's depth charge 5 compilation, and also have a track on SoundsLikeCafe Volume #16. This has been achieved on the back of the 'Hair trigger' EP which was recorded in a backyard studio in Blackforest, SA May 2005. Live at Newcastle was released January 2007, a live Gig, as the title would suggest, and a great timestamp for the band. Since that recording, BJ has come on board, filling Toby Langs's shoes very nicely indeed. The rest of 2007 is dedicated to getting an album length recording finished and finalising the summer festival tour 07-08
