JESSICA IN PIECES
Genre: Metal
Jessica In Pieces are a five piece Adelaide metal band who hail from the south. They are primarily fueled by horror and booze and with intense live shows they have gained themselves an infamous reputation throughout South Australia. Their dynamic and original sound fuses together modern popular metal with old style 80’s metal to create a strong, versatile, and energetic live music environment.
Jessica In Pieces formed in late 2004 out of the remnants of hardcore/metal band Enclave and with new members and a new direction J.I.P was born. Within a few short months they had played their first show on Friday the 13th of August at local metal and punk venue, The Underground, to a very good response, and to this day the band have continued playing shows to an increasing number of fans and foes alike. Highlight shows of the band’s blossoming career include supporting The Dillinger Escape Plan (USA) in 2005, playing the notorious Crafter Fest, Swinfests’ and countless J.I.P headline & local support shows.
On the success of their live shows the band decided to record a three track demo showcasing their potential to the local scene. 500 copies of the demo were produced, all of which were sold, swapped or given away to followers of the band, bands they had played with, and influential people in the industry. This demo won the boys a SAMI award in 2004 for outstanding emerging artists, which they followed up in 2005 with the award for best metal act. Late 2005 saw a line up change with the departure of lead guitarist Shaan Kelly due to writing and artistic differences. Shaan was replaced soon after by long time friend of the band Rob Checkley. Rob’s introduction was just what the band needed to revitalize their sound and inspire a fresh approach to song writing.
The boys spent the first half of 2006 writing and fine tuning their new material before recording their debut EP “Baby, Eat My Face Off.†Jay Illmen, guitarist in local Adelaide punk band The Brews, and close friend of the band, recorded and mixed the EP at the Fish Shop down at Port Adelaide and continues to work with the band as their live sound engineer. The CD is being launched on December 23rd 2006 at popular venue Enigma Bar, with fellow bands A Thousand Nightmares, Nessun Dorma, and Chase Manhattan (VIC). Having found, harnessed, and captured a fresh live sound Jessica In Pieces are ready to start playing shows once again and are kicking off with a quick trip to Melbourne for a show at The Pony Bar, and then back home to Adelaide for their launch, with more dates to follow in the new year.
