John Baker Duo – Bio

Guitarist & vocalist John Baker, accordianist Gayle Buckby create a seductive and potent world with songs influenced by a background in jazz but with latin, European and contemporary folk elements. Their sound lies somewhere between Sting and the soundtrack to the film 'Amelie'.

Playing also as a trio to a sextet at larger gigs, the full band includes the addition of double bass, clarinet, violin and percussion.

John Baker is a storyteller - his songwriting is intimate, playful and poetic with an ambiguity that draws the listener in.  He has also written soundtracks specifically for numerous short films, including SBS television.

2006 heralded the release of their debut full-length CD, Slow Music on Mixmasters Records (Independent) and distributed through MGM.

"A true storyteller, John Baker has no trouble capturing your attention and drawing you into his beautiful world of warm, moody tones, gentle melodies and inspired lyrics... Its a perfect blend of folk and Latin rhythms with a pleasant vocal style making this one of the best acoustic albums that I've heard in a long, long time"
