Kermis Biography Kermis
Genre:
Kermis is a five piece band that plays original funk, groove and rock music. After playing together in high school jazz and dixieland bands, the members have spent two and a half years mixing their broad musical influences (read: arguing til red in places men aren't supposed to be red) to create a unique and highly energetic live act.
The sounds of Kermis are influenced by broad range of rock bands, with each member listening to vastly different styles. Their interest in funk and funk-rock is obvious, but their common background in jazz often comes out in the music as well. Some of the bands common influences are the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Sly and the Family Stone, Radiohead, Led Zeppelin and You Am I.
Kermis has been organising and promoting its own gigs for over two years, and has now developed a keen local following, mainly by word-of-mouth. The band has played about a billion gigs at a range of venues such as the Gov, Folwers Live, Austral, Crown and Spectre, Enigma Bar, Jive and the Rhino Room. Of the billion, the best gigs have been Folwers Live supporting Triple J and Cooks fav, Offcutts and gigs with locals bands such as The News, Mr. Wednesday and the Phobias.
