Locura Biography Locura
Genre: Metal
Locura formed in late December 2004. With local punk/metal band Retic breaking up that same month, Drummer Steev decided to form a new band focused on metal and himself on vocals. Locura then came together with Tom on drums, Matt on guitar, Michelle on guitar, Jarrod on Bass and Steev on vocals. The band then sat down and began to work on original material creating a melodically enhanced thrash metal sound.
In March 2005, lead guitarist Michelle left the band to pursue other interests leaving Locura as a 4 piece. The band was still determined to work with two guitarists to create and inject a lethal dose of metal diversity into their music. Kane, an old friend of Steev, joined Locura immediately. Kane’s first impression was immaculate, he brought everything and more into the band’s sound that the original Locura members had dreamt of. Unfortunately, due to physical problems Kane was forced to leave Locura. His departure still saddens Locura as he was one of the most valuable members that the band has ever seen, and ever will see.
Locura was then ready in May and with a 5 songs under the belt they recorded there 6 track demo. With the demo CD complete, they then entered the local Adelaide metal/hardcore scene at the start of July. Playing with local metal legends such as: Through Closed Eyes, Equal Minded, The Jonestown Syndicate, Jessica In Pieces, Synnove, Fall Of Reason, Echo Generation, A Red Dawn, Impartial, Beautiful Nightmare, Undermined, Tidal, Double Dragon and many other Adelaide hardcore/metal bands.
In August, Locura had been working on new material which was heavier and more melodic than their original stuff on the demo CD. They decided to enter the studio again to record the debut EP 'The Mental Scars EP' with local producer Kyle Bloksgaard (1000 nightmares, Embodiment 12:14). The EP was distributed under Lost Records and managed to sell out at Big Star and shows within a week. The EP helped Locura score the opening slot at metal/hardcore festival Swinefest 2005.
Matt, the original lead guitarist of Locura left the band due to personal issues. Matt was replaced with Sean and also adding Jed on lead guitar making Locura a 5 piece again. With the two new guitarists added to the band, Locura’s sound has improved immensely, creating the most brutal form of melodic thrash metal in existence. They debuted their new line up in the December of 2005 in Whyalla with Tidal, The Borderland, Double Dragon, A Red Dawn and Deafening Silence.
