Drawing its name from an unusual native tree found in central Chile; Monkey Puzzle Tree is a dynamic ensemble who present post-romantic original compositions. Ethereal melodies mingle with striking rhythms to create a musical soundscape that is both rich and complex.
The band featuring David O’Callaghan (guitar), Sophie Calderbank (electric violin), Michelle
Lam (piano) and Matthew Gorgula (drums) formed in early 2008. Highlight performances include Womadelaide 2010 (Moreton Bay) and the Garden of Unearthly Delights (Bosco Theatre) 2009. Influences for the group range from classical, Latin to experimental whilst also drawing on contemporary and progressive genres.
