Move To Strike
Genre:
Move to Strike started a fire in 2004 as teenagers who could no longer keep their hands warm huddled around the embers of the mainly Christian pop-punk / melodic post-punk scene they were kicking around in Adelaide at that time. Full of naive ambition, they set out to marry the technical dissonance of Refused and At the Drive-In with the sophisticated pop lushness of Jimmy Eat World and Further Seems Forever. Self-recording their debut release from their Adelaide Hills homes in 2005 the demo-come-EP Battlefield Postcards impressed the local media and industry folk. Circulating 300 copies for free, then matching that number in sales put the band on the map, and received airplay on Nova FM. A panel of judges from the Advertiser, Nova FM and local music industry placed Move to Strike in the top 5 emerging artists only 1 month after the band’s first show.
Cutting their teeth supporting the likes of After the Fall, The Hot Lies, Trial Kennedy, Horsell Common and The Sundance Kids and playing Schoolies Festival and the Adelaide Big Day Out ’07 occurred alongside the band becoming a 5-piece to allow front man and songwriter Ben Green to step out from behind his guitar. In late 2006 Move to Strike recorded the follow up EP to Battlefield Postcards with Engineer/Producer Darren Thompson (The Sundance Kids, Amity Affliction, Blueline Medic).
With a shiny new record in hand and the world at their feet, Move to Strike went on a shocking indefinite hiatus to deal with some of life’s other challenges.
“We weren’t interested in doing a half-hearted job of being a band and making music, but after almost two years apart from it we realised that this was what we really wanted to do with our lives, so we’re back!” - Ben Green
The four founding members of the band returned to the stage in June 2009 to a sold-out Governor Hindmarsh crowd to farewell their good friends In Fiction. A quick trip to Victoria and a handful of local shows have re-established Move to Strike with old fans that keep coming back for more, and with new faces they meet at every show. Solidifying the line-up over the autumn meant a farewell to founding bass player Ross Simpson who now graces the stage with fellow Adelaidians Mere Theory. Move to Strike welcomes long-time friends Matt Roberts and Steve Packer to the fold.
That shiny record from 2006 has been worn thin on a handful of stereos around the country, but to the masses, it is still yet to be heard! And as a credit to the quality of the songwriting, and it’s inventive production Arms & Militaria sounds like 5 songs that could have been recorded last month.
Released independently mid 2010, to a sold out Adelaide crowd. Move To Strike have gone from strength to strength playing numberous shows around Australia and racking up a tonne of international supports.
The band is cureently in the throws of writing their debut album, which is set to be recorded in late 2011. So watch this space as Move To Strike is defiantly a band to take off.....
