The Neverbells Biography

The Neverbells

Genre: Folk, Pop

So who are The Neverbells?

They are four guys and a girl playing sweet bluesy folk-pop numbers. They are Amrs incredible instant coffee concoction. They are Thurston the black cat leaping from the bass amp. They are the walls covered with paper with any number of band names, song titles, arrangements, chords, set lists, and band-plans scrawled over them. They are the preferential voting system that resulted in the band name after months of crazy suggestions.

But, on closer inspection, they are much more than that. They are also the songs that get stuck in your brain, the melodies and harmonies, the rhythm and words. They are the energy in their live shows and they are in every person listening and watching.

The Neverbells formed in Adelaide in late 2007 when Amr Zaid (on acoustic guitar), Kaliah Alice (on vocals) and Mike Raine (on piano and keys) started jamming and writing songs. Amrs pop sensibilities and song-writing genius, Mikes big percussive playing and writing style, and Kaliahs knack for writing soulful blues-inflected vocal melodies fit together perfectly like three jigsaw pieces. A few months later the jigsaw puzzle was completed when Chris Marshall brought his feel for rhythm in on drums and Michael Clark took the six string reins, freeing Amr up for bass duties.

Prolific song-writing swiftly ensued, resulting in an ever-growing set brimming with great songs, from dynamic pop-laden numbers to the slow and melancholic . Before long the band found themselves playing their first gig to a very receptive crowd at the Higher Ground Art Cafe. The great vibe produced an amazing show, and this was just the beginning. Armed with a demo recorded at the incomparable Cheese Factory in Meadows, the Neverbells are sailing into an EP, more shows, and even bigger things to come. With an engaging live show, unique and catchy song-writing, and a fresh sound, The Neverbells are a band not to be missed.

All you really need to know is that The Neverbells are here to stay, and will be coming to a pub, bar, cafe and radio near you soon!
