The Neverbells
Genre:Folk, Pop
They are four guys and a girl playing sweet bluesy folk/pop numbers. They are the songs that get stuck in your brain, the melodies and harmonies, the rhythm and words. They are the energy in their live shows and they are in every person listening and watching.
The Neverbells formed in Adelaide in late 2007 when Amr Zaid (on acoustic guitar), Kaliah Alice (on vocals) and Mike Raine (on piano and keys) started jamming and writing songs. Amr's pop sensibilities and songwriting expertise, Mike’s big percussive style and Kaliah’s soulful blues-inflected vocal melodies fit together like three jigsaw pieces. A few months later the jigsaw was completed with Chris Marshall’s rhythmic feel on drums.
Prolific songwriting swiftly ensued, resulting in an ever-growing set brimming with great songs, from dynamic pop-flavoured numbers to the slow and melancholic. Before long the band found themselves playing their first gig to a very receptive crowd at the Higher Ground Art Café. The great vibe produced an amazing show, and this was just the beginning.
Further gigs at such hallowed Adelaide venues as the Grace Emily and Governor Hindmarsh swiftly followed. The band then brought the love to the Komodo Café, Worldsend, Cranker, Festival Centre Bistro and even Victoria Square. The band also hit the road to perform at the Ceduna Oysterfest over the October long weekend 2009.
The addition of the guitar panache of Joe Del Bono (recently of The Jade Remedy) has further strengthened the hand of the band, and promises to lead them into greater musical variety, subtelty and sophistication.
In the meantime, their journey through the recording of their debut EP is nearing completion. They have shacked up with renowned engineer/producer Corey Hosking at Adelaide’s premier recording complex Chapel Lane Studios.
With proud support from Arts SA, the band eagerly anticipates the release of ‘Dreamland’ on 6 February 2010 at the Grace Emily.
The Neverbells are here to stay, and will be coming to a pub, bar, café and radio near you soon!
