"There is nothing quite so depraved as a man in the depths of an Ether Binge" (Hunter S. Thompson) LEGAL INTOXICANT HAS POLICE POWERLESS - "ALCO-POP" TAX MAKES MATTERS WORSE - A new high has found its way onto the streets of our cities, and there's not a thing the authorities can do about it. Initially used as an intoxicant in the 1800's when known as "Sweet Vitriol", and later as one of the first surgical anesthetics, Raw Ether is now predominantly used in the chemical industry and is perfectly legal. Made nefarious in the 60's cult literary classic "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" by Hunter S. Thompson, and the movie of the same name starring Johnny Depp, Raw Ether is making a comeback as heavy handed policing on other narcotics, and increased taxes on pre-mixed drinks, forces a new generation to try it. Dr. Richard Leader, of the United Alliance for Youth (UAFY) says; "It's a volatile gas with powerful anesthetic qualities. After experiencing euphoria and a physical detachment from their body, there is a real chance of lapsing into comatose state. Plus it's very dangerous to drive or operate machinery after an ether experience." The popularity of Raw Ether is being spread via use of social networking sites, such as MySpace and Facebook. A Google search turns up 218,000 hits, most involving the cult appeal. While experts admit it's use is still small scale, being quite inexpensive and legal, they fear it will catch on and become much more popular. "We just want to warn young people that Raw Ether is potentially dangerous. It could be an experience from which you never recover", Dr Leader said. (Richard Leader and the United Alliance for Youth are fictitious and created purely for amusing and creative purposes. Any resemblance to real people is a bonus, but strictly coincidental.)
