The Texettes
Genre:, , , , , , Acoustic, Alt. Country, Blues, Country, Folk, Pop/rock
Over the last 4 years the Texettes passion for what they do and their persistence to **“keep on doing what you’re doing, don’t change a thing, keep singing your original music”, is starting to have an impact on audiences, keen to hear “refreshing” new music.
“A Sure Fire Cure”, their 6th album release since 2001, has been described as “the most even and balanced and consistent (and indeed best) Texettes LP heard to date; very marketable” by Mike Parkes Star Australia June 2010.
Deborah Minter, Capital News June 2010 (Vol 35 No. 6) wrote “this album will grab you, shake you and leave you bare”.
Track 1, "By a Living Thing" was a finalist in the 2010 Tamworth Songwriters Contemporary Country Music Competition
Their music style has been described as “virtually impossible to pigeonhole ….mellow, bluesy, pop, jazzy, country…a whole heap of titles”. From a haunting country ballad , to country rock, pop, blues or folk, the intelligent heartfelt lyrics are woven into the “loping rhythms, the great harmonies and fantastic arrangements” .
A standout feature of the Texettes live performance is the duets performed by Helen and Terry, their individual powerful lead vocals and the "intertwining harmonies" as a trio, underpinned by Terry on acoustic guitar and Dale's chromatic harp.
Terry runs a small independent record label; is an all round performer who began his career in music at around 30 years of age. He was a member of several successful bands prior to the Texettes. He is a self taught guitarist with a passion for song writing and recording (he has won a SAMIA award for song writing and was a finalist of the Australian Aria awards for producer of Best World Music Album). Helen starting singing as a hobby 11 years ago and 12 months later, joined the line up of the Texettes 5 piece band that formed in March 2000, singing backing harmonies and the occasional lead vocal. Since the debut of the Texettes Duo in March 2005 Helen has relished the opportunity to become an accomplished all round performer. Dale, a “true music lover, with tastes that vary from country to jazz and everything in between” joined the Texettes in 2007. Dale cannot ever remember not owning a harmonica, and has been playing the chromatic harmonica for 15 years. He has his own weekly jazz show on an Adelaide Community Radio Station. Individually the Texettes each have different musical tastes and levels of experience but they all have one passion…..they love what they do and it shows!
