Some say the purpose of our lives is happiness. Some say music makes people happy. This is the basic philosophy behind Unknown Truth, a unique progressive rock trio from the North-Eastern suburbs of Adelaide, South Australia. Independent press has compared the band’s sound to such luminaries as Rush and Tool. The band members themselves – Paul Cardle (21, guitar/vocals), Stuie Cardle (19, bass) and Chris Letheby (21, drums) – cite influences ranging from Led Zeppelin to Bruce Lee, through Iron Maiden to Opeth and Ken Wilber.
Since mid-2005, Unknown Truth have played gigs at such well-respected Adelaide venues as the Exeter, the Crown & Anchor, the Lizard Lounge, the Jade Monkey, the Bridgeway Hotel, and the Governor Hindmarsh. They have had airplay, interviews, and live performances on community radio including Radio Adelaide and 3D Radio, and played gigs with interstate and international acts including UK-based blues guitar legend Gwyn Ashton.
The band independently released their debut EP, The Mistaken View of the Transitory Collection, which was critically acclaimed in local press, and entered the S.A. Real Music Chart at number 10. They were also selected by MusicSA to play at the ‘Louder Than Words’ showcase of Northern Suburbs talent, at the Bridgeway Hotel in November 2006.
In 2007, Stuie joined the band after previous bass player John Kessell left for personal reasons. Having worked with Paul and Chris on a previous project, Stuie fit in to the band quickly and has brought some new, heavier influences to the sound. Unknown Truth are now raring to go with the new line-up and will be gigging again before you know it...
Here's what others have to say:
"this song (Balancing Inaction) will get a few spins thanks to its crunchy guitar riffs and dirty vocals" ~ Fiona Stafford, DB Magazine, August 2006
"Unknown Truth seem to be saying "wake up people" and they do it through the medium of hard, melodic rock music that is sung and played with absolute passion and energy! ... It's (The Mistaken View of the Transitory Collection) a highly individual debut and it rocks out! " ~ A. Sheerin / B.J. Thomas, Adelaide Bands.com, September 2006
"Unknown Truth may be unknown but the truth is it is an excellent rock band... be swept up by hypnotic rhythm and a beautifully melodic sound-scape... Unknown Truth have captured a collage of progression and made it into an art." ~ Stephen Davenport, The Independent Weekly, September 2006
