Vincent's Chair is the brainchild of singer-songwriter, Kathie Renner, a creative artist who writes from the heart about her observations on life.
The group began in 2000 as a 6 piece, and has evolved into its current trio line-up of Kathie Renner (vocals & keyboard), Karen De Nardi (viola), and Hugh Stuckey (guitar). The combination of instruments and the beautifully crafted songs, together with their outstanding musicianship make for a lush, sonorous and unique sound.
In performance the trio has established a reputation for delivering haunting, intimate moments with their expressive and exquisite playing. Their obvious joy of performing make them a delight to see in concert.
Vincent's Chair cite as their influences Joni Mitchell, Sting, Pat Metheny, Yamandu Costa and Lior.
Their recently self-released CD, "Stretch", contains a body of work which illustrates their sound and style of music. It is both expansive and succinct. From the movie sound track-like opening song, "The Fishermen's Secret", through to the straight ahead groove tune, "Closer to your Heart", Vincent's Chair are determined to produce music which is limited only by their imagination and exploration of all musical palettes available to them.
The recipient of a South Australian Music Industry Award, the group has performed to much acclaim at the Adelaide Fringe Festival, the Adelaide Cabaret Festival, the Coopers International Jazz Festival, and EUROPAfest 06 in Romania and are regular performers and supporters of COMA: original music showcase evenings held bi-monthly at the Wheatsheaf Hotel, Thebarton - Adelaide, SA.
Kathie Renner - Arguably one of Australia's finest singer-songwriters, Kathie possesses a voice of rare beauty and sings in a style of social comment reminiscent of Joni Mitchell. In 2005 she received an award for her songwriting in the Australian National Songwriting Contest.
Hugh Stuckey - is a recipient of a Generations in Jazz award, and is highly regarded for his innovative and sensitive playing.
Karen De Nardi - has played viola in numerous ensembles in Australia, and has toured to Europe and the USA. In Vincent's Chair Karen's complimentary and supportive qualities on viola provide a secondary voice and a unique colour to the group's sound.
