New music brewing in the pants of SA: Meet THE WATERSLIDES.
They make euphoric sample-based pop. The group appeared in early 2008, supporting Modular thoroughbreds Van She and Bumblebeez; opening for Dukes of Windsor; remixing Gerling frontman Darren Cross and locals Fire! Santa Rosa, Fire!; and learning how to name-drop. They secured spots at festivals like Big Day Out 09, Parklife, St Jerome's Laneway, and most recently Big Day Out 09.
On stage the Adelaidian five-piece delivers a dense wall of delirious, melodic house-hop-disco-dance-pop at deafening volume. Founding members Luke Eygenraam and Tim Whitt strive for “the energy, chaos and punck-rock spirit of history’s best live acts.” Ably assisting the core duo are loved friends and flatmates Tim Harper, Scott Somerville, and Jimmy Boss.
Witnesses report a sensory onslaught somewhere between Daft Punk and The Flaming Lips … there’s nary an angular haircut to be seen, yet it rocks like a motherfucker.
The Waterslides' debut EP is planned for release later in 2009.
