Gene Phoa

Gene Phoa is an Australian-born yet globally-bred singer, songwriter and indie/alt-rock artist.

Leaving his marketing career to search for his “true calling”, Gene spent over a year backpacking through Asia and ultimately rediscovered his childhood passion for music at an impromptu open mic night in India.

Since then, Gene has performed at over 200 events across SA, taken out the lyrics award at the 2019 SCALA Festival of Original Music and premiered his debut cabaret show 500 Nights of Winter with a sellout season at the 2021 Adelaide Fringe Festival.

Inspired by elements of indie, alternative, rock and pop, Gene pairs a luminous voice with infectious hooks, rhythmic guitar and anthemic storytelling to create modern yet meaningful music. He is currently working on his debut studio project which is expected to launch in late 2021.
