Cumberland Hotel – Music Venue – Semaphore

Established as a licensed public house in 1870, The Cumby has seen a resurgence of new audience attending this revamped music venue in recent times. New publican Michael Parker is dedicated to serving old fashioned hospitality and home-style meals. The newly refurbished front bar and kitchen that has also recently seen a list of Adelaide’s best bands perform along with interstate touring bands of many genre. Michael is dedicated to supporting and growing original music in the venue attracting solid numbers of music enthusiast.

On the original music side Michael is also creating opportunity for performers that have written music but whom have had to perform covers to make ends meet. Having never had their original material heard, these local artists will be recorded Live At The Cumby. The songs will be produced and released through Port Adelaide based Sly Grog Records and Distributed to the world by Ditto Music. To deliver Sly Grog Records into the world, Michael has teamed up with long time music business manager and promoter Darrel Baird from Blue Tongue Management. Darrel has worked with The Angels, Ian Moss, Don Walker, Brewster Brothers, Kevin Borich, Monshine Jug and String Band, The Radiators, Adrain Belew (USA), former AC/DC and current Rose Tattoo Bassist Mark Evans, The Brown Brothers and Darren Jack over 21 years. The inaugural session titled The Original West Enders is supported by West End Brewery and launches at the Semaphore Festival 27th September 2018

Boasting two new purpose built stages with the main stage, ‘Stage Alphabet’ (150pax) inside the venue, named and dedicated to celebrate the life of legendary West End promoter Romauld Josep Szewczuwianiec (R.I.P) or Ron Alphabet as he was better known. Ron played a major part in developing the regions music industry since the 70’s including 30 years of service to The Cumberland Hotel. (Ron was quoted by Jimmy Barnes as giving Cold Chisel their first break). Stage Alphabet will be graced with electric Rock, Blues, Rockabilly, Punk, Metal, Country and Psychedelic/Experimental bands. The second stage, ‘Live At The Garden’ (300pax), now features its’ own stage, bar and disabled facilities. This stage will feature acoustic and light electric performers including blues, country, folk and adult contemporary throughout the summer of 2018/19. The front of the venue is currently being constructed into new outdoor alfresco dining experience ready for the Semaphore Music Festival on the September long-weekend.

In the true fashion of old school public houses of the 1800’s, Cumberland Hotel Glanville is family friendly, hosts a vibrant social club, community and private events. It has renovated and spacious upstairs rooms for meetings and private functions. The kitchen is also renovated and boasts a nicely priced menu. There is plenty of extra entertainment with a super screen and multiple smaller screens throughout the establishment for televised sporting events like the AFL and NRL Grand Finals and in-house live performances. There are weekly rock n roll dance lessons, 8 ball, darts, trivia, poker tournament, barista coffee, genuine hospitality and live music 5 nights a week.
