jive's big blue building knows a thing or two about reinvention, and about possessing a colourful, whirling history. this place was once a theatre and later became the legendary toucan nightclub in the 70s. it then underwent 2 decades of bewildering changes: reborn as a bar, nightclub, risque trip joint, and a comedy club. today, Jive is a live music venue for local, national and international acts. Its original theatre design elements give it a huge advantage over many other band performance venues; making the space an acoustic winner with plenty of character. the stage stands before the sunken dance floor, so drinkers can have clear sight lines from the bar level. for a different perspective, head to the upper level & check out the stage action from the balcony.

most afternoons, jive exudes a chilled out lounge vibe and caters to university students looking for post-study drinks, pool and foosball. the bar is well stocked and much effort has gone into making sure the range of wines and spirits is high in quantity, rich in quality.

the decor, staff & music make jive a truly welcoming, cosy & entertaining night (or afternoon) out!

Upcoming Gigs

Saturday 16th August
LAZAROS DOG Single Launch, Soft White Machine, Tyger Tyger
Adelaide stalwarts Lazaro's Dog are returning with a new single. Known notoriously for "Home Entertainment System" which reached 2 on Triple J's Net-50 and 82 on the Hottest 100
It is most famously known as the tune for JVC’s TV Ad. "Bup Bup Bananana". Lazaros Dog have played extensively since 1998. They usually pop up for their annual raucous Xmas show, but this year you get a mid year treat with the new single.
DOORS 8PM - $10

Sunday 17th August
THE KILLDEVIL HILLS, Jimmy Stewart, The Huckleberry Swedes
Due to the overwhelming response from fans and swag of sold out shows on the east coast in May, those dashing swamp monsters from the wild west, The Kill Devil Hills head east again this August.
Described as "one of the best live bands this country has to offer", The Kill Devil Hills rickety, dirty, intense take on rock, folk, gospel, country and blues makes for a brooding and volatile live show. This is a band searching for the delicate balance between beauty and savagery: gristly electric guitar and overdriven violin vying against the fragile twang of a banjo; a heartaching drawl matched against the swelling cacophony. Don't be dissuaded by the banjo, mandolin or fiddle though. This is a serious rock-and-roll band on their last journey east before they start work on their much anticipated third album, and as a treat for you all they'll be road testing some new songs before setting them in stone. Make sure you get in early, their last shows sold out fast.
