“Counterpoint” is the latest creation from the musician / visual artist collective, “We As Art, We As Artists”, who have been coming up with unique presentations for Fringe since 2012.
Sparked by an idea from Adelaide singer/songwriter Mary Webb, she put together a team of talented artists to transform original songs – initially written as solo pieces – into a harmonic extravaganza. For the visual side of the show, there was an exhibition of related artworks and live sketching during each show.
Every year since, anywhere from 7 – 15 artists co-create a show, with a cast now split across two states (South Australia and Victoria).
For their 2016 piece, “Counterpoint” blends dynamic movement, acroyoga, music, visual art and body painting into a one of a kind show, which “explores the nature of and boundaries between dichotomies such as day/night, sun/moon, masculine/feminine, and moves towards eventual dissolution of these boundaries.”
This is a music show at its Fringe-y best, and a visual feast. The We As Art… team is also doing FRUSIC the honour of performing some excerpts from their show at the official FRUSIC VIP launch on 10th Feb. We can’t wait!
