The South Australian Music Awards return this November!

The SAM Awards will be bringing together the who’s who of the SA music industry on 17 November at Adelaide’s brand new music venue, Hindley Street Music Hall.

Nominations are now open for our Industry Voted and People’s Choice categories. You can nominate yourself, or someone else you think deserves recognition for their work in the South Australian music community. For more information on eligibility criteria see our website here.

Despite a rough year for live music, the 2021 SAM Awards went ahead in a glorious celebration of the local music industry at the historic Adelaide Gaol. We’re looking forward to celebrating the local industry once again and highlighting all the incredible achievements made by our local music community over the past 12 months.

Last year’s awards broke records with emerging pop-punk duo Teenage Joans taking home a whopping seven awards! We also saw a record-breaking number of votes in our People’s Choice Awards with over 11.6K voting for their favourite local artists.

Best Song and Best Group Award (to name only two!) winners Teenage Joans have since released new singles, placed in Triple J‘s Hottest 100, toured around Australia and been nominated for Breakthrough Independent Artist of the Year at the 2022 AIR Awards.

2021’s Best Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Artist and recipient of the APRA AMCOS Emily Burrows Award Tilly Tjala Thomas, has had her latest singles ‘Mansion’ and ‘Ngai Yulku Nhiina’ featured on Triple J as well as Apple Music‘s Up Next.

People’s Choice Electronic and Best Solo Act Award winner Motez performed at WOMADelaide 2022, where the set was recorded for Triple J’s Live at the Wireless. Motez has also composed for Illuminate Adelaide and toured Australia.

Nominations close 3 October 2022.

We can’t wait to see what the 2022 SAM Awards winners get up to! Keep an eye out on our socials as we announce voting for the 2022 People’s Choice Award category opening over the coming weeks!
